t’s raining quad-core smartphones in India! Quite literally. It’s almost everyday that we see some or the other quad-core smartphone being launched in the country and surprisingly, the quad-core fad in India has opened the doors for various Chinese smartphone manufacturers as well.
After some Chinese manufacturers like UMI Mobiles and Zopo announced their quad-core smartphones in the Indian market, another smartphone-maker from China, Gionee has announced it’s quad-core smartphone, the Gionee Dream D1 in India but unlike any other Chinese quad-core smartphone, this one has impressed us at the first glance.
The reason why we say it, is because of the beautiful 4.65-inch Super AMOLED plus display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution on the Gionee Dream D1, which is incredibly stunning for a smartphone in this range. To be honest, we fell in love with the display as soon as we powered up the smartphone.
The Gionee Dream D1 is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor along with 1GB of RAM and PowerVR Series5XT GPU. With such raw power under the hood, we expected a smooth operation on the Dream D1 and whatever time we’ve spent till the smartphone, it holds up quite nicely for the most part.
The back of the Gionee Dream D1 gets an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash but one big downside of the device here is that it only supports video-recording in 720p, while some of the other budget quad-core smartphones in the Indian market offer 1080p video recording as well. At the front, you get a 1 megapixel camera to fulfill your video calling needs.
Just like other budget quad-core smartphones available in India, the Gionee Dream D1 too sports dual-SIM card slots. Another problem we faced with the device is the lack of internal storage on the device, which is listed at 4Gb, but only about 1GB is available to the user.
